Penobscot artist Butch Phillips makes canoes and other items from birch bark. This container is a fine example of his work, with its fine craftsmanship as well as etched design.
This cylindrical container is etched with floral designs on the cover, with an etched plaque lashed to the side of the vessel. The body of the basket displays the flaky white inside bart of the bark, while the cover is a light version of the inside of the bark.
