Sculpture

Alaskan Sculpture: Indigenous people from Alaska include Yup'ik, Inupiak, Athabaskan, Aleut, Eyak, Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian. Carving materials include wood, whale bone, walrus tusk, mammoth tusk, and stone. Carving traditions go back thousands of years, and maintain a strong influence among modern sculptors. However, many contemporary artists bring their unique personal vision to their medium and create work that breaks boundaries.
