This is a stunning point basket by Passamaquoddy weaver Gal Frey. Created from black ash wood and sweetgrass, the black points are the first thing one notices On closer look, one makes note of the subtle contrast between the black points and the shiny grey standards below the points. This is a wonderful basket for any collector, whether their focus is Wabanaki baskets in general or baskets by members of the Frey family.
Ms. Frey learned the art of fancy basket weaving from Sylvia Gabriel in the early 2000s. She later taught her son Jeremy to weave. Her son Gabriel is also a very accomplished basket maker.
