David Ruben Piktouqun makes faces that are reminiscent of those made by people in ancient cultures and are other-worldly. This face, carved from beautiful Brazilian soapstone, has no eyes, because sometimes people are simply blind to what is around them.
Born in the Northwest Territories of Canada, David Ruben Piktouqun was sent away to a residential school at a young age. As such, he is comfortable in the Indigenous world as well as mainstream Canadian society.
Face is 7 inches high x 4 1/2 inches wide x 1 inch deep. Mounted on the stand, it's 9 1/2 inches tall.
