David Ruben Piqtoukun makes faces that are reminiscent of those made by people in ancient cultures and are other-worldly. This face iss carved from beautiful Brazilian soapstone. It has been repaired following a break when being released from a mold. The repair can be most clearly seen on the back of the face. The price of the sculpture has been reduced because of the break and subsequent restoration.
Born in the Northwest Territories of Canada, David Ruben Piqtoukun was sent away to a residential school at a young age. As such, he is comfortable in the Indigenous world as well as mainstream Canadian society.
Face is 7 inches high x 4 1/2 inches wide x 1 inch deep. Mounted on the stand, it's 9 1/2 inches tall.
