Maliseet Artist Aron Griffith Large Birch Bark Basket with Purple
Aron Griffith, Maliseet artist, creates birch bark baskets and mother earth effigies from birch bark, adorned with animals, plants, and traditional Wabanaki designs. The birch tree has long provided Northeast Woodland Indians with material for containers as well as canoes.
This is the largest basket we've offered from Griffith. The birch bark is beautifully mottled, serving as an attractive background for the dark dragonflies. The bands of ash wood on the basket are dyed purple, for a striking look.
