A large basket by the late Sylvia Gabriel; it's the largest basket that we've had by her. Sylvia, her mother Mary, and her sister Deborah Brooks are wonderful examples of multi-generational basket making in the Wabanaki communities. Sylvia's basket-making legacy lives on, as she taught Gal Frey to weave; Gal, in turn, taught her son Jeremy to weave.
The basket has a beautiful, unommon pattern of braided sweetgrass loops. It has a wonderful golden patina; according to the original sales tag, it was woven in 1999.
Basket is 8 1/2 inches in diameter x 9 inches high, including finial.
