We call this a point basket "plus" because Gal Frey has added rows of braided sweetgrass amidst the weavers (horizontal ash splints). The points are in straight vertical columns, distinguishing this basket from most other point baskets, where the points are staggered horizontally. The rows of sweetgrass, combined with the vertical columns of points and the prominence of the standards (horizontal ash splints) create a very elegant point basket.
Ms. Frey learned the art of fancy basket weaving from Sylvia Gabriel in the early 2000s. She later taught her son Jeremy to weave. Her son Gabriel is also a very accomplished basket maker.
