It's skillfully inlaid with turquoise, jet, mother-of-pearl, and coral. Fine details include scalloped bezels, twisted silver wire under the wings and tail feathers, and hoop earrings.
The letters REX are scratched onto the back of the pin. Dealers in the southwest were known to inscribe price codes like this through the middle of the 20th century.
